Almost every time I have walked into a brand new, unoccupied home, I can immediate notice that smell. Unlike a new car smell, a new home smell is different. It is essentially a combination of several construction related chemicals blended into one odor.

Materials such as paint, caulking, sealant, new carpet, grout, tile finish, etc. are essentially still lingering and it makes for a noticeable smell. Although I personally don’t find it offensive, other people can’t stand it.
